In part 2 of 3 of my chat with Mike Bailey and Stella about the DCU linewide relaunch, we discuss in detail the Batman, 'Dark,' Young Justice, and 'Edge' families of solicitations. Probably the highlight of the episode - find out what makes Michael Bailey say, "Yes, please move on. I want to eat and have sex for the rest of my life." This one's not to be missed! Comments[0]

Welcome back to your monthly dose of upcoming awesome! I really hate not getting an ep of the podcast out between solicitation rounds, but it's been a pretty crazy month, what with holidays and moving and still not having my comics back in any kind of order. Really sorry about the delay, guys! As pertains to the subject at hand, you may notice something new about the solits this month. Just a few days ago it was announced that DC Comics was dumping the outdated Comic Code Authority seal in favor of their own comic rating system. And they implemented it in short order, because the new ratings are already present on the April solits! So pay attention and find out what your favorite books are getting rated!
GREEN LANTERN #65 So I guess the big question here is, who's the blacked-out guy holding the lantern? Hal Jordan would seem like the most obvious choice (seeing as he's the star of the book), but then where's his hair? The lack of much hair would lead me to think John Stewart, but something still looks wrong about the silhouette for him. So I'll go ahead and admit I just don't know who that is. Maybe it'll be a swerve and won't even be a Green Lantern. Not sure why that would be, but, ya know. Who knows?
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #59 That looks like Kyle's ring. That'd better not be Kyle's ring. Stop f&$%ing with Kyle Rayner!
GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD WARRIORS #9 Notice how this is scheduled to come out a week before GLC #59, but apparently Guy has to deal with the consequences of GLC #59? Ah well, I just like seeing Guy Gardner getting punched in the face.
BRIGHTEST DAY #23-24 Well, here we are, people. The final Brightest Day solicitation. And - holy shit, $4.99?! Guess I'm living on Taco Bell that week!
THE FLASH #12 I have to admit, I'm really starting to think they teased FlashPoint way too early. I am officially sick of hearing about the ROAD to FlashPoint. I want to see the solits for FLASHPOINT already, ya know?
GREEN LANTERN: BRIGHTEST DAY HC Good stuff, but if you've been reading Green Lantern or listening to the podcast, you already know that.
SUPERBOY: THE BOY OF STEEL TP Buy this! Don't think, just do it. Some of the best work Johns (and Manapul) has ever done. And it's just the one TPB, not a series, so it's not a commitment. Seriously, take my advice and get this one if you haven't read it! Category:Solicitations

March is going to be a very big month for Geoff Johns books, both in new issues and in collections. It looks like there's something for just about everybody to be happy about, so lets dig in and see what Santa brought us in this month's Geoff Johns solicitations!
GREEN LANTERN #64 I actually decided to try making the covers as large as possible this month just to better showcase this amazing cover by Ivan Reis. Damn that's some Lanterns! I honestly don't know what the hell is really going to make all these people turn against each other, but I'm excited to find out. And I hope John Stewart knows he's going to get a Kyle Rayner-style ass-whooping for shooting Soranik! Holy damn!
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #58 Since the three Green Lantern books are now in direct crossover with the "War of the Green Lanterns" storyline, I'll be featuring all three books in these solits for the next few months even though the other two aren't written by Johns. First, because you don't just want to read parts 1, 4, and 7 of a storyline, and second, because I think we can all agree that Johns was the architect of this story anyway. Green Lantern Corps has long been a book worth picking up one way or another, though, so this will be a good opportunity for you to check it out if you haven't already. Tony Bedard has done a good job so far taking over from the excellent Peter J. Tomasi, and Tyler Kirkham is kicking ass on the art. Plus - it stars Kyle Rayner. And everybody knows Kyle Rayner is the BEST Green Lantern! Right? Right?! John Stewart had better start praying is all I know!
GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD WARRIORS #8 That is one NICE looking cover! And it's not the variant! Party time! All in all I'm definitely looking forward to this crossover. Looks like interesting times for Green Lantern in April!
BRIGHTEST DAY #21-22 Hey, do I smell a unified direction for Brightest Day? That would be a nice improvement! I hate that I have to show this cover so small, but it's a wide one so it's the best I can do. It's interesting to note that the original file name for this cover indicates that it's not a final cover. We've seen several unfinished covers solicited for Brightest Day, but this one seems particularly unlikely to make it to print in this form since the focus is on the left side. If it was a wraparound, that would put the focus on the back. And if it was split into two, there'd really be jack crap on the right side cover. So I suppose it's anybody's guess what these issues' covers will look like.
THE FLASH #11 Anybody else feeling a sense of deja vu? Yep, this one was in last month's solicitations, too, but the text here notes it's been cancelled and resolicited. The only change I can see is some new lightning effects around the skeletal Flash (just scroll down this page to the February solicitations to compare for yourself). I tell ya what, I love Francis Manapul's art, but it's starting to look like he's holding this book's schedule back. The first arc, with art by Manapul, was plagued by delays, and now we have this issue resolicited to a month later. Yet, when Scott Kolins did two fill-in issues, we got both of them in one month. That seems to indicate the issue is with Manapul. Very sad, as I really like his art on the book, but I find its momentum is getting destroyed by the delays. Not good when Flash is supposed to be a major touchstone book for the DCU in 2011 with the Flashpoint event.
BRIGHTEST DAY VOL. 2 HC Not much to say here, really. You've heard my reviews of the issues on the podcast, so you know what I think. Sadly, in a month full of great Geoff Johns collections, this one's at the bottom of the pile.
THE FLASH OMNIBUS VOL. 1 BY GEOFF JOHNS HC Now this, my friends, is the standout! Get a second mortgage, sell your dog, whatever you have to do to afford it, just buy this book! If you've never read Geoff Johns' original Flash run, you absolutely MUST pick this up. It's the beginning of one of my favorite books of all time. And with 13 issues and 3 one-shots, I'd say it's worth the damn price! I admit I'm not in love with the cover and hope it doesn't hurt the sales of this incredible book, but who knows, maybe it's not the final art. I'll hope so. But who cares - there are some amazing comics inside, people!
THE FLASH: REBIRTH TP This was certainly not the same quality as the Omnibus' Flash material, but if you haven't read it and you're reading the current Flash book I'd go ahead and pick up this softcover. None of what happened here has really played into the new book yet, but I'd lay odds it's going to start being important when Flashpoint rolls around.
GREEN LANTERN: SECRET ORIGIN NEW EDITION TP Don't buy it for the Ryan Reynolds introduction, buy it because it's a great damn story. Seriously, I assume most of you reading this have already read Green Lantern Secret Origin, but if you haven't you should definitely order this. It was a great idea on DC's part to rerelease this one for movie-goers, and hopefully a lot of them pick this up. I think it'll definitely get them hooked and send them looking for more. Hey, it might be a money grab, but I'm never going to complain about good comics getting in front of more people. Category:Solicitations

Sorry it took me a bit longer to get them to you this month, but here's your rundown of the only books that matter in February 2011 - the Geoff Johns books!
BRIGHTEST DAY #19-20 Kevin Says: "The Aquaman story does seem to be a favorite of many people, so I'd say this Aquawar shows promise to make a lot of people happy. Interesting that none of the other stories are even mentioned in this two-issue solicitation."
GREEN LANTERN #63 Kevin Says: "No cover provided for the Green Lantern solit this month - I wonder what tantalizing spoilers it might hold! The War of the Green Lanterns is an exciting prospect so I'm definitely looking forward to this, but the solit doesn't really provide much to go on here." GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD WARRIORS #7 Kevin Says: "Now, this one's not written by Johns, but it is a prelude to a direct crossover with Green Lantern (and Green Lantern Corps). I'll be posting the solits for all three books when they're in direct crossover, so I'd pay attention to this one, too, if the solit is to be believed that it'll have major ramifications for the War of the Green Lanterns. It's been a solid book so far, so I'd recommend picking it up anyway. Same goes for Green Lantern Corps." THE FLASH #11 Kevin Says: "Funky stuff going on with Barry Allen again? Wouldn't be surprised. But this book hasn't stopped delivering the fun either way, so it's a solid pick!" SUPERMAN: NEW KRYPTON VOL. 3 TP Kevin Says: "Man, they sure are milking that Annual for all it's worth in slapping Geoff's name on trades, aren't they? Just like with last month's Mon-El trade, I'd recommend just picking up a back issue copy of Action Comics Annual #10. It was an excellent book, but it's not worth picking up this whole trade for just one short story (whichever one they chose to include - which is not indicated here). Geoff didn't write any of the rest of this stuff." Category:Solicitations

Here's your rundown of the only books that matter coming out in January 2011 - the Geoff Johns books!
BRIGHTEST DAY #17-18 Kevin Says: "Hawkman and Hawkgirl finally off of freaking Hawkworld? Score! And thrown into a storyline I find interesting? Even better! Definitely looking forward to seeing where the Captain Boomerang/Hawk/Dove story is going as well. Sounds like it might be a good month of Brightest Day! You'll also notice the cover treatment here, with the white background, big symbol, and single character. It's something DC's doing with all their books this month apparently to showcase the characters. As with anything like this, it produced some great covers and some 'meh' ones. I'm not really bothered either way by this one in particular. But I will say, if that's the best symbol Aquaman has, maybe that's one of the reasons he has a problem selling solo books. Might be time to get a good graphic designer on that."
GREEN LANTERN #62 Kevin Says: "Definitely interesting times ahead. I'm jazzed for 'War of the Green Lanterns,' especially since it's a crossover between three books I'm already buying :) And it looks like 'New Guardians' will wind up being a 10-issue arc. Only 2 off from my prediction of 12!"
THE FLASH #10 Kevin Says: "Man, with 'War of the Green Lanterns' AND 'Flashpoint' looming, what's NOT to love about the Johns books right now? Oh, and I'm making my prediction on the identity of Hot Pursuit right here: Detective Morillo (from Johns' previous Flash run). You all owe me five bucks when it's revealed!"
SUPERMAN: MON-EL VOL. 1 TP Kevin Says: "This one's only got a tangential bit of Johns in it. Just one short story from Action Comics Annual #10. It's a great story, but if you haven't read it you're better off finding a back-issue copy of the Annual." Category:Solicitations
